Gangsta's Paradise ........Coolio #90smusic

Let's get straight to the business of the day, #90smusic. I couldn't make up my mind what song to feature today, too many songs were jumping around my head screaming, me me! I had to calm my mind down and now we have a winner. It's Coolio's gangsta's paradise. Apart from Vanilla Ice's Ice baby lyrics (because my brother wouldn't stop trying to do the rap, hahaha, he even recorded it on a cassette), this was one of the first rap songs I knew the lyrics to. No kidding, I knew the rap, back to back! I was so taken by the fact that it was clean, with no profanity, very unusual at the time.

This song was kind'a the highlight of the Dangerous minds movie for me. It's like most of these movies about "the hood" then had more memorable soundtracks than the movies themselves, look at Jayson's lyrics and Waiting to exhale for example. Many hits were born out of them. I was excited when Gangsta's paradise got to number one on Rick Dees' weekly top 40 show, my favorite countdown show ever! Say I, if you love Rick Dees too. The song even made it to the billboard hot 100 and spent a whooping twelve weeks there! Who said keeping it clean doesn't sell? Till date, I think this song has been Coolio's greatest hit ever.

I totally love the orchestra style chorus and background. You should see me now, rapping along, lol. I think my kids are wondering what has come over their mother.

What can I say, I am totally biased in favor of the 90s!!

Have You Tried Facebook-Flavored Ice-Cream ?

Have you heard about facebook flavor in an icecream? Surprised ? Yes there is a flavor of facebook where in two enterprise ice cream makers at Valentino Ice Cream Shop in Tisno, on Croatia’s Murter island, came
up with such an idea.

Admir Adil an owner of the ice cream shop observed that his 15-year-old daughter was constantly checking Facebook, so he thought and turned up with an idea and find it appropriate to create a flavor for other fans who are obsessed with the social media.

Two brothers named Admir & Ibi Adil created their Facebook-flavored ice cream by simply mixing blue syrup atop vanilla ice cream and placing a small sign with a Facebook logo on it. They said they had not even contact Mark Zukerberg for the usage of its trademark logo and they sold a a scoop for a euro ($1.32), the ice cream seemingly tastes like sugary sweets and chewing gum and it became a hit they got many customers & many passersby were immediately drawn to Facebook’s trademark logo as well as the novelty(Icecream Shop).

Being socially responsible........#inthelineofduty

This week has been one week!! I must give it to full time, stay at home mums, you should hold your head up high because you are super, super! Summer school activities ended last week, to my shock and dismay *covers face*. But really, we still have till the 16^th of September before they have to resume so I was hoping for just one week more. Keeping active little men positively engaged is not a joke. So, before they kill my Nanny Mcphee, I decided to make myself available this week full-time (almost). Oluwa oooo! Kids just never tire.

My line of thought for today's #inthelineofduty post is this; if there’s going to be any change in our land, it will be driven by entrepreneurs. I bet you've heard that my former big boss, Aliko is set to build a refinery in Nigeria, about time too! I know some of you are there rolling your eyes and thinking #$*! Capitalist, but let me ask you; if you had all that money and access, what would you do? There are others who have as much money as he does but half a brain and are busy wiring all the money out, buying property in Dubai and the likes. This initiative will create at least 80,000 new jobs for Nigerians (and a couple for Indians, maybe lol! Sorry couldn't resist). It will also boost the ailing economy. We should give it to the man, he may have his flaws (who doesn't!) but he is an entrepreneur extraordinaire.

Enough about Aliko. I watched the Igwe twins of @Speedmeals Mobile Kitchen On Moments with Mo yesterday. Inspiring stuff! Very interesting pair, those guys. If you missed it, you can read a summary of their story here;

They said something on the show, that I agree with totally. Every business should be socially responsible. There’s a never ending debate as to whether this should be mandatory or by choice, but I leave that to the CSR experts to deal with. Tobias (one of the twins) said they decided they wanted their brand to be associated with something good, something that would make people say, this company touched me.

My #inthelineofduty post today will be about being socially responsible........

When we hear the phrase social responsibility, most times we have a picture of big companies doing grand things and splashing them all over the dailies. For some it comes as an after-thought because there is pressure to connect with the community in which they operate, for others it is part of the foundation of their company policies. I am not a CSR expert, but I think social responsibility should be part of the foundation of a company. Businesses should decide what cause they want to address and document it.

I know I have an MBA and yes we had classes that tackled the issue of corporate social responsibility, but at the time of birthing Trezorlandia, It wasn't even a thought. Like I said, many times we think of it as something for big companies, those evil companies polluting our environment (haha).

The second valentine as Trezorlandia however, as I was preparing for my deliveries, I looked at the teddy bears from the valentine that never was and thought of kids who would give anything to feel loved. I immediately knew the cause Trezorlandia would take up. I made up my mind then to package the teddy bears along with a few other things from the proceeds of that period and visit an orphanage or home to help put smiles on kids faces. I wasn't thinking “social responsibility” then per say, but I had this nagging need to do something that would make a difference.

We visited So Said Charity Home in Okota, Lagos. You wouldn't believe how far your little contributions go to making a difference. Don't wait till you can build a house, just give what you have, even if it's just your time.

Today, it is documented in the Trezorlandia profile as the part of soul of our business;

It feels great to put a smile of children’s faces. On children’s day this year, with the support of the trezorlandia family and in conjuction with Cares unend, publishers of Erin magazine, we had a little party and spent time with speech and hearing impaired children at a school in Ikorodu. We had a piece from the largest cake in Africa from Cakes by Tosan too, it was a great experience for us and the kids.

Inside Scoop on the Nestlé and Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat Deal

Today internet giant Google and Swiss-based Nestle threw the world for a loop when they officially announced Android 4.4, they had chosen a brand-name chocolate treat Kitkat as its latest version.(notKey Lime Pie). The BBCwho was able to get the inside scoop on the deal, where they sat down with John Lagerling, Android’s director of global partnerships.

In the interview, Lagerling he patted Google and new bff Nestle on the back for keeping such a massive deal not unveiling. Not a single leak could be make out in public or not even any hints. All of this despite the 2 giants meeting back and discussing the deal, finalizing the deal within the hour, in this duration they convinced Hershey in the US to get on board the project, and start production for packaging of 50 million KitKat bars featuring the Android and kitkat tie-in kicking off over 2 months ago. One can say that's amazing job done.

After all this unveiling, financial terms weren't disclosed for the sweet deal between Google and Hershey Co., which makes Kit Kat.

Google approached Hershey about six to nine months ago for permission to use the name, said Jennifer Podhajsky, vice-president of U.S. chocolate at Hershey, which licenses the Kit Kat brand in the U.S. while Nestle owns the worldwide brand.

The Android 4.4 KitKat system is expected to launch in October. The software is now running on more than 750 million smartphones and tablets throughout the world, making it the world's most widely used mobile operating system.

Doing business with family and religious bodies.......Yes or No?

Happy new month!!! Hehe. Scratch that okay, I put it there as a joke. Till tomorrow, I would never quite get this "greeting" that has crept on us and become the norm, out of nowhere! Don't ask me why, I can't put my finger on it, but I find it strange. Maybe I am the one who's strange and old school-ish.

Next on my pet peeve list is "How was your night?" Like seriously! I don't understand. Recently I heard about how an expatriate in Nigeria sincerely expressed his confusion when he got into the office one day and someone asked "how was your night?". I hear he was like, "what I do at night is none of your business". Hahaha!

In other news though, September 19th is my birthday!!! Yaay me. Not like I have anything planned for that day, just feels good to shout yaay me, hehe. But on a more serious note, living to see another year in life is a privilege and I am more than grateful.

I can imagine why one would think like this, especially the church scenario (don't stone me yet!). Many of us know the "do it for God" line. There's nothing wrong with offering your services or products to support the church for the good of mankind, but it's better when it comes from your heart, because if it doesn't you are wasting your time, pretty much.

I don't think as entrepreneurs we should shun family and religious bodies we belong to as clients. We just need to find a way to conduct the business as a business, no sentiments in the matter. I scanned the internet for tips on dealing with family and religious bodies but didn't find much, so you are stuck with my two cents;

Start with yourself
Do you just take products or enjoy services from your business without being accountable? You can't expect to enforce this on your family and friends then!
Be Professional
The way you conduct business should be reeking of professionalism. It should be so good that, nobody will even be able to approach you with "ilo ku lo" (indecent proposals). The way you present yourself, communicate your business and carry out transactions say a lot. Issue invoices when necessary, receipts at the right time, little things, but they are important. Let the quality of your service or product be unquestionable across board.
Be polite but firm
This may not be as easy as it sounds but you have to learn this, if you really want to stay in business. Do not entertain anything that is not in line with your company policies and procedures. Document all of these polices and ensure that anyone working with you is aware of these policies. If there is a credit policy, any habitual defaulter should be blacklisted. "Please uncle, I know someone who I can refer you to" c'est finit.
Separate the business from yourself
Give your business a life of its own. When you set up your business with its own accounting system, separate from you, an auditing system (It could be a contract arrangement) and so on, you are not free to take decisions for the business without having to answer to someone.
Set up a board of advisers/trustees
You have mentors, people that can guide you in your business decision making process. A word of caution though, keep this number minimal to avoid bureaucracy. Knowing that you have a board to answer to keeps you in check. * Read more about setting up a board here - Assembling a board of advisers

This is just scratching the surface, there's so much more that can be said, so many deeper issues that can arise, but I am all for keeping it simple. We can take further discussions on this matter outside of this blog. Besides, I am so so sleepy right now..... Body no be firewood.

You can safely backup your application data from your Android device itself. Helium (formerly known as Carbon) is your solution. How to use Helium (Carbon) to backup your app data...

Download and Install Helium (Free or Premium) from Google Play Store.
Install desktop version of Helium <--- Click here to download
Enable USB Debugging on your device. (For android 4.2 and up users, go to Settings>About> Tap 7 to 8 times on Build Number until to you see a message " You are now a developer ")
Install USB drivers of your device if you are running on Windows Platform. Please note that USB drivers that you install must support ADB. (You can also try installing drivers from Windows Update if you are unable to get manufacturer's drivers)
Connect your device to PC via USB Cable in PTP Mode (Portable Camera) making sure you have USB Debugging ON.
After you have done with this, Open Helium app on your device and Helium desktop on your PC, this will activate Helium to work on your device unless you perform a restart

You can now backup your app data along with apps either to your SD Card or Your PC... ENJOY!!!

NOTE: This will not work with Motorola Devices due to bug from Motorola's Side...

Let us go to the Subject Clearly, there are more services on the mobile like airtel, bsnl, uninor and the big list, but the solution is common for them. The Procedure for all service providers is same, by doing this you are registered to the National Consumer Preference Register (NPCR),the Promotional and telemarketing calls would be stopped within 7 days after activating the DND service

HOW TO ACTIVATE DND BY AN PHONE CALL

1) Just Dial 1909, a toll free number for this service, Listen to the Options and choose the right option that is to Register for DND service, the Activation will takes 7 days

HOW TO ACTIVATE DND BY AN SMS

1) The procedure is simple just send an SMS to 1909
2) To Stop all Promotional calls and sms, Just type "START 0" and send to 1909 (Use Bold letters )
3) It stop services for all categories, if you want to stop the specified category like bank type calls use number "1", real estate use number "2" , for Education use number"3", the list goes on,i think it is better to stop from all categories

HOW TO DEACTIVATE DND IN MY PHONE

If you suddenly change your mind about it, if you want to receive the promotional calls, Simply follow either one of the ways i stated below.

Just Dial 1909, and listen to the options, select the Option to fully De-register from the DND Service, it takes a week to Deactivate
We can Deactivate this service by SMS, just type "STOP 0 " to 1909, to De-Register from DND and receive Promotional and Telemarketing offers
