We are not afraid of any country - Agbim

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 29 Januari 2014 0 komentar
The Super Eagles goalkeeper has expressed his confidence in today's match against Ghana. He believes it will be a great lifetime achievement to win in the tournament. In his words, “To win the Chan trophy would be great because not many of the boys were at the Afcon so they would want to win something for themselves. “I think if we do win this it’ll be a great achievement because every footballer needs something to show after they retire from the game,
” Agbim says.

He also expresses his strong belief in God; “We are not doing this in our own power; we are still believing in God. We pray to God every day and I believe by the grace of God come Saturday we will do the job.”
Asked about coming up against rivals and fellow West African powerhouse Ghana in today's semifinal, Agbim said: “We came to compete so we are not afraid of any country and we are ready to face Ghana.
“It’s possible that we can go on and win this tournament. Yes, we could go all the way.”

I’m confident Nigeria will win the battle on Wednesday - Hamilton

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 28 Januari 2014 0 komentar

Former Nigerian manager, Paul Hamilton has said there is nothing to worry over the semifinal clash between Ghana and Nigeria at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa.

Both West African perennial foes will confront each other on Wednesday at the Free State Stadium, Manguang to decide who progress to the final of the biennial football showpiece.Nigeria stopped Morocco 4-3 in the quarter finals on Saturday while the Ghanaians pipped DR Congo 1-0 to set up the epic clash between familiar opponents on Wednesday.

Hamilton said the semifinal encounter will turn out to be the most unpredictable game of the entire matches played at the championship.“The Ghana, Nigeria semifinal tie will be the most exciting game of the championship, both countries are perennial rivals and West African football giants.“Both sides play good football, it’s an encounter that’ll be too difficult to predict its outcome. We’ll just keep our fingers crossed hoping for the very best for the Nigerian side. Everybody must expect a. tough contest between both sides.

“But I know the Nigerians are equal to the task and I’m confident Nigeria will win the battle on Wednesday,” said the former Nigerian star to supersport.com.Hamilton said the Super Eagles must do everything humanly possible to avoid trailing their Ghanaian opponents, the Black Stars as they did against the Atlas Lions of Morocco.“We must not for any reason trail behind the Ghanaians as it may prove too tough to comeback as we did against the Moroccans.

“And once we go up scoring we must not stop scoring and not until the whistle sounds signifying the end of the encounter the Ghanaian side remain a dangerous side. Only goals win the match so we must continue to score goals,” said the former Super Falcons manager.Hamilton assured the Eagles coaches will correct the lapses noted in the side’s previous matches before the game on Wednesday against Ghana.

“No side is perfect but correction of mistakes is a continuous exercise, we’ve our shortcomings same as the Ghanaian side but I’m sure the coaches will work on those mistakes before we face Ghana,” Hamilton said.

Stephen Keshi Turns 52

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Keshi, who turned 52 on Thursday, took time to express gratitude for the assistance and support he has received from different quarters since he assumed the head coach role of the Nigerian men's national team in November 2011.The former Mali and Togo manager was also full of appreciation for the surprise birthday celebration he got at the team's Green Court Hotel lodgings in Cape Town but remained focused on the clash with Morocco."I feel really good to be alive and well, and I'm happy to be here (in South Africa with the team). The atmosphere has been good and I can't thank God less for what I've achieved with this team."I'm also speechless and at the same time happy with the celebration. It's always good to feel loved and appreciated by people but I've told the team it's not party time as we can't afford to take our eyes off the ball. We are very focused on the next game (against Morocco)," Keshi said.Since becoming Nigeria's head coach, Keshi has guided the Super Eagles to win the Africa Cup of Nations and qualify for the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

Ghana Made it to Quater Final

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 22 Januari 2014 0 komentar

Ghana marched into the knockout stages of the 2014 Orange African Nations Championship as Group C winners following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ethiopia at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday evening.
Kwabina Adusei’s goal from the spot was enough as the Black Stars continued their quest for silverware.
Ethiopia boss Sewnet Bishaw only made one change to the side that lost 1-0 to Congo on Friday. Mentsenot Umema was included in the starting XI in place of the suspended Asrat Gobena.

Meanwhile, Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu made no fewer than four changes to his side with talisman Yahaya Mohammed suspended and attacking partner Sulley Mohammed injured for the all-important encounter.
As a result Seidu Bansey started as the lone striker up front.
As expected when a side has nothing to play for, Ethiopia who were already knocked out of the tournament going into the tie, weren’t planning on sitting back as they pushed forward in search of their first goal of this year’s tournament.
The Black Stars, though, were as a result also handed the odd chance and it was they who went closest in the opening exchanges.

CHAN: Nigeria meets South Africa again

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 18 Januari 2014 0 komentar

The South African Team, Bafana Bafana, will be playing against th Super Eagles on Sunday. Since 1992, the South African team have only managed to beat Nigeria once in eight matches. In November 2004, the South Africans won with a 2-1 scoreline against Nigeriato win the  Nelson Mandela challenge of the year. The 2 teams met again in August 2013 for the Nelson Mandela Challenge of the year where Nigeria won with a scoreline of 2-0.

For this match, South Africa have Kaizer Chiefs trio of Bernard Parker, Itumeleng Khune and Siphiwe Tshabalala in their squad. Other experienced stars in Gordon Igesund's team are Thabo Nthethe, Lerato Chabangu and Katlego Mashego among others. While Nigeria has had to bank on Ejike Uzoenyi, Rabiu Ali, Solomon Kwambe, Azubuike Egwuekwe and Ifeanyi Ede to lead his squad.

From the Nigerian Coach:
Keshi said in a post-match conference after guiding his men to a 4-2 over Mozambique that "South Africa have massive advantage" going into Sunday's match.
"Who are we playing next? No, seriously, this is a different tournament and you can't compare this Nigeria side with last year. South Africa have massive advantage in terms of experience, the fact their league only stopped in December and their players are still in condition. They have what it takes. We'll need a high level of concentration to overcome South Africa," said Keshi.

From the South African Coach:
Igesund has declared that he holds no fear for the Super Eagles. He made it clear that he will set up his team to attack in Sunday's game despite knowing they need a draw to reach the quarterfinals.
"Why should I be scared of Nigeria? We're not scared of anybody. We've just beaten Spain, I should be scared of Nigeria?
“My philosophy has always been play to win. When you start thinking about trying to play for a draw, you start doing the wrong things.
“I won't compromise my principles. My principles have always been, go out there and try win a match. If the other team scores three, you must score four.
“It's been my philosophy for many years and it has worked for me. There's certainly no way I'm going to go out there play defensively.
“We know that Nigeria are going into this game with only one thing on their mind, and that's to win the game. We will be offensive against them, that's the plan, we want to go forward.
“I want to attack them down the sides, have overlapping fullbacks and let's ask the questions, we need to ask a lot of questions defensively and we'll try and do that," said Igesund

The issue now is that the Super Eagles will have to win by any margin to reach the quarterfinals after picking three points from their previous two matches. Will South Africa grab their second win against Nigeria? Or will Nigeria make it to the quarterfinals?

Eagles defeats the Black Mambas as they set CHAN in motion

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 16 Januari 2014 0 komentar

The Super Eagles home-based team won against the Black Mambas of Mozambiuqe yesterday with a 4-2 at the Cape Town Stadium. This victory is timely as it sets the African Nations Championship, CHAN, in motion. The victory must have been as a result of the little changes the coach has made to the team after the Egales Lost the last match with Malians.

The first goal came in as a shock for the Eagles 10 mins into the match as captain Kahn of Mozambigue. shot a long free kick straight into Eagles' net. This happened as a result of Agbims slackness. His teammate sooner covered up for him as the team equalised. Malians led again in the 20th minutes, which brings up some level of tension to the Eagles.

Eventually, the Eagles were able to overcome their opponent in the second half as Ali and Barnabars scored in the 54th minutes and two minutes to regulation time.

The Eagles will next battle with the Bafana Bafana on Sunday.

Samsung Soccer Star saves earth in TV Commercial

Posted by Unknown Senin, 13 Januari 2014 0 komentar

The Samsung TV Commercial cooks up a fictitious scenario in which Earth's only chance to survive a gathering menace from outer space is by assembling an epic soccer squad to play one match for the freedom of humanity. There are no half-measures in this project: the ad is nearly four minutes long, while the "Galaxy 11" campaign has a very slick and robust website of its own.

If you're wondering just who Samsung picked to hypothetically save the human race, they are:
  • Lionel Messi
  • Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Aleksandr Kerzhakov
  •  Landon Donovan
  • Wayne Rooney
  • Iker Casillas
  •  Lee Chung-Yong
  • Radamel Falcao
  • Victor Moses
  • Stephan El Shaarawy
  • Wu Lei
  • Oscar
  • Mario Götze.
The all-star lineup and Hollywood premise means the ad has already scored a golazo with fans online. The video has already racked up more than 3.3 million YouTube views.

Michael Olaitan scores for Olympiacos

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 09 Januari 2014 0 komentar

Nigerian midfielder, Michael Olaitan capped a fine performance with a simple goal as Olympiacos won 4-0 against Asteras Tripoli in the first leg of the third round of the Greek Cup on Wednesday night at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskáki.

Olaitan netted on the hour after the Asteras goalkeeper, Daniel Hernández failed to hold on to an innocuous looking cross from Anastasios Papazoglou. Hernández’s howler allowed the unmarked Olaitan to sweep home from six yards and seal a comfortable win for the Erythrolefkoi ahead of the second leg which comes up on January 22 at the Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium.

Olaitan has been in great form this season as he has also netted twice in the league from his advanced position in midfield. Solid displays by the unheralded midfielder in Europe’s premier club competition; the Uefa Champions League has seen Olympiacos progress to knockout stages where they will now meet Manchester United over two legs in the round of 16.

Olaitan however did not hit the ground running as former Nigeria Under-20 coach, John Obuh explained. “I was preparing the Nigeria Under-20 team for the 2013 Fifa World Cup in Turkey when I received information from a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about 'a very good young Nigerian footballer' playing in Greece.

“We looked it up on his club’s (Veria) website and invited him (Olaitan) to camp. Initially, I was unimpressed with him because the other players were much better than him or so I thought.
“However, his humility and willingness to learn helped me see another side of his game and he duly made my squad to the World Cup.

“I am sure that positive attitude of listening to his coaches and trying to learn new things is helping him succeed in Greece,” Obuh exclusively told supersport.com.

Olaitan has made eight league appearances for Olympiacos who currently sit at the top of the Greek Super League standings with 52 points from 18 matches.

Chelsea defender, Kenneth Omeruo, loaned to Middlesbrough

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo has joined Championship club Middlesbrough on loan for the rest of the season. The Nigeria international signed for the west London club in 2012 from Standard Liege's youth system and cut his teeth professionally with a loan spell at Den Haag last term.
He will now head to the Riverside Stadium in an attempt to boost Boro's improving Championship campaign and also help his chances of representing his country at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Another youngster heading out of Stamford Bridge is midfielder George Saville, whose loan at Brentford has been extended until the end of the season.

Saville has already made 24 appearances for the League One side this term and will be joined at Griffin Park by Marcello Trotta. The Italian, who famously missed a penalty in the last minute of last season that would have sealed promotion from the third tier, has netted six times in 17 league games, and will remain with the club for the remainder of the campaign on loan from Fulham.

Another striker leaving the Premier League temporarily is Sunderland's Mikael Mandron, who will run out for Fleetwood Town for the rest of the season. Hull City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic and Everton left-back Luke Garbutt sealed one-month loans on Tuesday, joining Leyton Orient and Colchester United respectively.

FIFA World Cup 2014 Draws: What group will Nigeria be seeded in?

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 04 Desember 2013 0 komentar

The FIFA World Cup will take place on Friday, Dec 6 in Costa do Sauipe, Bahia, Brazil. This Friday will go some way to determining the prospects of the 32 participating nations when the draw for the group stage takes place.

Brazilian actors Fernanda Lima and Rodrigo Hilbert host the draw, with singers Margareth Menezes, Olodum and Emicida involved in a lavish opening show, which has been designed to showcase the host nation's natural beauty.
