Interesting Facts About Jellyfish

One of the most interesting creatures I enjoying watching at aquariums is jellyfish. There's something so quirky and graceful about them. There's also some really cool facts about them.
For example, did you know that jellyfish have been around since before the time of the dinosaurs? You may have noticed that they have tentacles that hang down their bodies, just as Medusa of Greek mythology has snakes hanging from her head. Could it be more than coincidence that another name for jellyfish is medusa?
Although they are called jelly"fish," they are not actual fish. Rather, they are plankton. Another interesting fact about jellyfish is that they don't have brains. I was quite surprised when I found that out.
If you've ever been stung by a jellyfish, you know how much it hurts. That's because when they sting, they release toxin into you. While some jellyfish are tiny, others can grow to be larger than a human being.
The average life span of a jellyfish is about a year. For food, it dines on fish, small animals and plants. A particular type of jellyfish, known as Turritopsis Nutricula, is capable of regeneration.
I hope you've enjoyed these fun facts and if you have some of your own, please feel free to add them in the comment box.
